Davis
Wind is a wind power exploration and development company. Davis Wind has a single
focus – to develop wind power sites in Northern California and Nevada.
We specialize in hilly or ridge wind sites that are the most difficult to access,
but also present many of the best opportunities in Nevada and California. We
provide site wind assessment and construction
services applicable to these areas. Our team concurrently has the ability to
obtain authorization and environmental approvals
to develop these sites.
Our target size projects are the 2-12 MW sites that generally are overlooked
by larger wind power developers. Typically these sites are on ridges or small
geographic features that concentrate the wind - often subject to inclined winds,
turbulence, and negative wind shear. These features combined with the high costs
of wind turbines inhibits development on hills and mountain
ridge locations prevalent in Northern California and Nevada. Wind
assessment and
engineering practices and designs are required
that are very different from those developed for a flatter northern Europe.
Davis Wind works with clients to determine an appropriate level of collaboration, characterized by the following arrangements or any mutually agreeable combination of involvement.
Currently, Davis Wind is exploring for wind development projects that we will finance and build. Davis Wind is currently prospecting for wind sites in California and Nevada. In this endeavor we are working to find sites with adequate or exceptional winds, access, siting acceptability, and preferably a nearby customer with adequate load to use the power on-site.
Davis Wind offers services as developers with a shared investment in the site. Clients may want to consider wind power development where there is large electrical demand on properties that have wind. We will act as a facilitator to the project combining the role of consultant and co-developer.
In this case, Davis Wind will assist a client through any part of the development
process acting as a consultant. For example, we will provide site analysis services
for clients wishing to develop their own sites.
We will review the site with the client, provide meteorological services as
requested and provide permitting services as requested.
The picture on the right shows a high 70 meter meteorological tower on the left and a range of two bladed wind turbines. The largest is 2 MW and the smaller one on the right with white blades is a 1 MW turbine.
Davis Wind have compiled a group of references that may be of interest. Further maps are available for California nad Nevada. Here are the key background associations that have extensive data on all aspects of windpower. By no means is the list exhaustive in an industry growing at 30 percent per year.
